The Immersive Deck was honored with the futurezone Award in the category “Smart Invention” by futurezone.at. For the futurezone Awards, the most innovative products of 2016 were chosen. The TU Wien and Illusion Walk KG received the award for pooling their research to develop the Immersive Deck. We are very proud of this accomplishment and congratulate Dr. Hannes Kaufmann and his team of the TU Wien!
futurezone.at is one of Austria’s most prominent technology news websites, providing news about science, information technology, apps, games, start-ups, and more. Every year futurezone elects companies, organizations, and products – both hardware and software – for the respective categorizes of their own futurezone Awards. 2016 was special insofar that for the first time there was a so-called “futurezone day” where industry figures and the interested public could meet for a day of lectures, discussions, and hands-on experiences. Following this, the prize award ceremony took place.
There are several sub-categories of the futurezone Award and we are proud and grateful that our brainchild, the Immersive Deck, could reap the Smart Invention Award. Collaborating with the TU Wien, over two years of research yielded two improvements that ultimately let the Immersive Deck prevail over the other contestants, namely the portable computer and camera system. The great advantage of these two innovations is the feasibility of creating huge virtual reality environments that can simultaneously be shared with other users, and this in an easy-to-use, efficient, and inexpensive way.
